00:REM:Floppy Apple Turnovers

10: 2 cups flour
20: 1 teaspoon salt
30: 1 cup butter
40: 1/2 cup cold water
50: 3 apples, peeled, cored, sliced
60: 1 tablespoon cornstarch
70: 1 teaspoon lemon juice
80: 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
90: 1 egg
100: 1/2 cup confectioners sugar



110: READ: Combine flour and salt in medium bowl, with pastry blender.
115: READ: Cut in 1/2 cup butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
120: READ: Sprinkle with cold water.
125: READ: Mix well with fork.
130: READ: Shape dough into a ball.
135: READ: With lightly floured rolling pin, on floured surface, roll into 8 x 18 rectangle.
140: READ: Cut 1/4 cup butter into thin slices.
145: READ: Starting at one of the 8" sides, place butter Slices over 2/3 of rectangle to within
1/2" from edges.
150: READ: Fold unbuttered 1/3 of pastry over middle 1/3.
155: READ: Fold opposite end over to make an 8x6 rectangle.
160: READ: Roll dough into an 18 X 8 rectangle.
165: READ: Slice remaining 1/4 cup butter.
170: READ: Place slices on dough and fold as in last 2 steps.
175: READ: Wrap in plastic wrap; chill 15 minutes.
180: READ: Roll folded dough into an 18x8 rectangle.
185: READ: Fold lengthwise then crosswise, wrap and chill 1 hour.
190: TYPE: Prepare filling:
195: READ: In saucepan mix apples, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice and cinnamon with spoon.
200: READ: Cook over low heat, stirring frequently, until apples are tender.
205: READ: Chill.
210: READ: Preheat oven to 450.
215: READ: Cut dough crosswise in half, roll one half into a 12" square, cut into four 6" squares.
220: READ: In cup, beat egg with 1 tablespoon water.
225: READ: Brush mixture over squares.
230: READ: Spoon 1/8 teaspoon of filling in center of each square.
235: READ: Fold in half and press edges to seal.
240: READ: Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
245: READ: Chill while preparing other half of pastry.
250: READ: Brush turnovers with egg mixture.
255: READ: Cut a few slashes on each.
260: READ: Bake 20 minutes or until golden brown.
265: READ: Cool on wire rack..
270: READ: Combine confectioners' sugar and 1 tablespoon water
275: READ: Mix
280: READ: Drizzle over turnovers or serve with ice cream on top.
